Drain testing

After any drain repair or installation of new pipework it’s vital to check for any leaks. Our engineers use two efficient methods of testing for your drainage system, we can use the air test or the water drop test.

Types of drain testing:

Air Test – This test is perfect for testing individual drain runs and single pipes. We use airtight plugs which are inserted to seal the area of pipe work that needs to be tested. Next using a pressure gauge we monitor any change of pressure over a 5 minute period and the readings will tell us if repairs are needed. This method is quick and effective for drains that can be capped off at both ends.

Water Drop Test – This method can be used to test your entire drainage system including chambers and gullies. We use a drain plug to seal off the lower end of the pipework and water is filled in the section which is being tested. The pipe should be left to stabilise for 2 hours and after this period of time we then measure and check the loss of water. If the water level doesn’t remain constant then this indicates a problem that needs to be repaired.
